Sprinkles of Walthamstow in East London

🇬🇧

London: my creative and vibrant hub

I wouldn’t be the person I am today without my big move to London just a few years ago. London is unique, vibrant and multicultural; a real sphere for ideas and creativity.

From cool, trendy and creative East London, to elegant and romantic West London, its diverse neighbourhoods truly reflect the interesting, dynamic and evolving character and vibe of the capital.

Let’s start in East London my lovely people!

Here we are today in a very fashionable and hip part of East London, namely Walthamstow. A vibrant area situated in the north-eastern corner of London, just six and a half miles (around 10 kilometres) from the City itself.

Walthamstow has gone through huge transformation in recent years, but it still hasn't lost its East London charm. A handful of new businesses have opened, adding to the many interesting attractions in and around the area.Walthamstow is great for young professionals and families, with strong transport links, unique independent shops and gorgeous parks.

Walthamstow is also home to Europe’s longest outdoor street market – Walthamstow Market. Despite its large size, the market is considered one of London’s best kept secrets. With over 350 stalls, here you’ll find everything from an array of herbs and spices to affordable clothing and stunning fabric. You name it, they have it at Walthamstow Market. Plus, it's great fun to explore five days a week! It is open from Tuesday to Friday, 8am to 5pm and Saturday, 8am to 5.30pm.

Did you know…?

Walthamstow was first known and spelt as ‘Wilcumstowe’, which means place where guests are welcome.

According to the Sunday Times, it has been dubbed one of London's six best places to live in.

Grime music scene and street art

Walthamstow played a major role in London’s grime music scene, and its influence can still be seen in the town’s unique street art and several local events held there. The creative spirit that led to the emergence of grime isn't limited to just the music, it can also be seen through the expansion of local businesses and diverse art venues that have opened in recent years.
